Review:
Special ops on a search and rescue mission. Well, there’s a lot more to “D4” than that. First off, this isn’t a run of the mill, slasher gore film. It’s definitely more of an action thriller, with a rich plot. Writer, director, and star of the film, Darrin Dickerson takes the audience on a journey, not only through the woods, but also through a very twisted conspiracy theory. Inspired by his own son’s epilepsy, Dickerson’s script revolves around a team of military expert’s search for a billionaire’s epileptic son, who she claims has been kidnapped for medical experimentation.
There’s also a subplot here of a Vietnam veteran, trying to rescue his young epileptic grandson, who has been kidnapped for medical experimentation. It is believed these experiments are being done at the abandoned “D4” airforce base. This piece of the story brings the humanity to the story. While the mercenaries are strictly on a mission, the old man puts a face and conveys the concern, and sheer desperation of a caregiver searching for their loved one.
The manner in which this film was shot and edited, keeps the audience guessing as to what the hell is the truth in this whole conspiracy. Add to the mix “the beast,” an unstoppable and brutal creature, you don’t know what is going to happen next. Once the “beast” enters the picture, it becomes a fight for survival, as he is out to destroy everything…and everyone in its path.
For the horror fans, there are scares, and plenty of suspense. The east provides plenty of blood and guts for horror fans. However, what really draws you in is the intricate and emotional storyline interwoven with the layered conspiracy theory. “D4” is not a predictable film. If you’re looking for an intense thriller, with some mystery, action and a bit of mayhem thrown in, definitely check out “D4.”
