Fright Night

I was fortunate enough to get a sneak preview of the new Fright Night movie, a remake of the memorable film from the 1980s.

As horror fans, we all remember how we came to love Chris Sarandon as he played the role of the vampire, Jerry Dandridge. In the remake, Colin Farrell shows his fangs as the neighbor vampire. Unfortunately, he in no way did the role justice.

The synopsis of the film was slightly changed from the original: Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all-he's running with the popular crowd and dating the hottest girl in high school. In fact, he's so cool he's even dissing his best friend Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But trouble arrives when an intriguing stranger Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there's something not quite right-and everyone, including Charlie's mom (Toni Collette), doesn't notice. After witnessing some very unusual activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on his neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone that he's telling the truth, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself.

A bright spot in this remake came from Christopher Mintz-Plasse. The Superbad, Role Models, actor once again delivered.

I was extremely disappointed by the lack of real special FX makeup. Everything was computer generated. The vampire transformation was uninspiring and a huge disappointment. The vampire’s movement was very similar to the demons in the movie Constantine.

The new remake of Fright Night was indeed a disappointment to say the least, but really when are remakes really better than the original? If you are into the new type of horror movies, then yes, this film is for you, otherwise save your time and money.
