In 1967 a pregnant woman comes down the aisle of a hospital with blood coming from her neck caused by a vampire. The child is born as the mother dies. As a child, Blade meets Whistler, who helps train Blade to battle vampires. Blade is also known as the Day Walker. He has all the abilities of a vampire, but none of their weaknesses.
