In case you have been living under a rock, you have probably heard of one of the most disturbing horror movies ever, The Human Centipede. This Dutch horror film, written and directed by Tom Six, quickly became a cult classic.
We caught up one of the stars of the film, and the middle part of the centipede, Ashley C. Williams, to talk about her role in The Human Centipede.
Horror News Network: Were you aware of what this movie was about prior to the audition?
Ashley C. Williams: The only thing they said in the Breakdown was that it was a European controversial film. I had no idea it was a horror film, or what it was about before I went.
Horror News Network: Once you knew what would happen to your character, Lindsay, did you have any second thoughts about taking the job?
Ashley C. Williams: No. I mean I had my reservations about the whole thing. What it was going to look like and how people would percieve it. But my only issue that might have held me back a tiny bit, was just making sure that this whole production was legit and that I was protected while I was over there. I told them- as long as my nipples don't show and my mouth is not actually touching their butt, bring on the centipede! but it was a huge process for me before I decided to take on the role.
Horror News Network: How long were you on set filming the movie?
Ashley C. Williams: A solid month.
Horror News Network: How did the cast get along?
Ashley C. Williams: We got along great! We had a lot of fun We would go to Amsterdam on the the weekends and Ashlynn and I shared an Apt together while we were there.. but we had to get close real fast...no pun intended!
Horror News Network: What were your thoughts on how Dieter Laser portrayed the evil Dr.Heiter?
Ashley C. Williams: Dieter is amazing. He had so much thought out and gave us so much to work with. I loved what he did with his role... it was so creepy and almost laughable, the fact that Dieter did the role with such ease, like he was born to play him! He really understood who Dr. Heiter was..and not to mention that there was no script, so everything that Dieter did was improvised!
Horror News Network: Did you have any idea how big the movie would be?
Ashley C. Williams: Never! ::laughs:: I honestly thought this film could either make or break me. I didn't know how far it would get...I thought maybe it would get to some film festivals in Europe and thats it! It has far exceeded my expectations and I am thrilled to have been apart of it.
Horror News Network: What was the reaction of your family and friends after seeing the movie?
Ashley C. Williams: They liked the film! I mean they thought it was the grossest thing they had ever seen, but were also proud cause they thought I did a good job in it. My mom says to me "please pick a romantic comedy next time". Some of my friends actually refuse to see it! Its ok, I know the film is not for everyone.
Horror News Network: OK, now the million-dollar question. Will you be reprising your role in the Human Centipede sequel?
Ashley C. Williams: You'll have to pay me a million dollars to answer that one.
Horror News Network: How did starring in the Human Centipede change your career?
Ashley C. Williams: It changed it immensely. I started getting offers for films left and right after it came out and started getting all the buzz on the internet. All the press I have gotten for it has been quite a lot. I am very excited to see where my career goes from here. Its all very exciting, I feel so blessed!
Horror News Network: What are you currently working on?
Ashley C. Williams: I live in NYC so I do theater all the time. Right now I am in a show called Bong Bong Bong Against the wall, Ting Ting Ting in our heads. I play the lead and its a musical about mentally ill children. www.LaMaMa.org.
