The Walking Dead Season 2 - Episode 7 - Pretty Much Dead Already
by: Jacki Clark

Meat
Well we've made it to the mid-season finale but certainty not unscathed! This episode begins with our survivors all at camp eating their breakfast when Glen comes to everyone and tells them about the walkers in the barn. I really didn't think everyone would be told. This very unsettling news starts a fight amongst the group on what to do about this problem. Rick is faced with many challenges due to this as he needs to stay now that Lori's pregnant but also needs to keep his people safe. He decides to talk it out with Hershel again and feels even after a definitive "no" there may still be hope in staying. I really don't understand why they don't move on and start their own farm! This is something that will make him question everything later. After the group's argument everyone goes off on their own to deal with things in their own way. Dale has another heart to heart with Andrea this time about her and Shane and who she may turn into in this new and harsh world. Maggie and Glen have a fight about him telling the others what's in the barn. Maggie also takes up for the group against her father, Hershel regarding them having to leave. We find later that Maggie and Glen have something special, Glen wants to protect Maggie and Maggie wants to protect Glen. Daryl is still set on finding Sophia even though Carroll is now beginning to see the truth that Sophia may not be coming back. Our super hunk Shane begins to come apart at the seams when he finds out what's in the barn and then explodes when he finds out about Lori's pregnancy and that she will not allow the baby to be his even if it is. I was really hoping Andrea would save some of Shane's sanity, but she is really more following in his footprints than anything else. Everything comes to a head when Shane comes out with the guns as Rick is coming back with Hershel leading 2 walkers by dog poles. Shane decides it is time to get rid of the walkers in the barn and go head to head with his best friend and Hershel. Shane releases the walkers from the barn. As the walkers begin to come out Shane, Andrea, T-Dog, Daryl and finally Glen stand together in a line shooting, killing the walkers one by one. Hershel held by his daughter, Maggie can only watch this with a pain stricken face. Then the tables are turned as Sophia, now a walker too steps out of the barn! Everyone only looks on Daryl holding onto Carroll. Rick, the real protector of the group steps forward to put Sophia down with a single shot to the head! I did not see this one coming! Sure, she might have turned but already in the barn was a big surprise o me!!
Walkers
There are 2 walkers caught in the mud close to the farm one of them Hershel knows personally. Shane uses her to prove a point and for target practice before the big show down. Then all of the walkers from the barn are shot down one by one with the occasional face chunk being blown off by a missed head shot. But the most memorable walker would have to be little Sophia. It is very emotional how she staggers out of the barn so small and assumed helpless but is gunned down too!
My Flesh
I am left with many questions and some answers after this mid-season finale. I feel we are seeing Daryl maybe coming into the place of Shane in group protection and he, opposite to Shane is gaining heart rather then losing it. Shane is off his damn rocker for sure now. Andrea seems to be caught in the middle of survival mode and the death of her own soul. Carroll is still not much of anything but is aiding in Daryl's change simply with kind words. Dale is walking a fine line in being wise and butting in. (I think he's really great.) Lori kind of get's on my nerves but I honestly can't put my finger on exactly why. Glen, one of my favorites is becoming not just walker bait but a real solid person and hero amongst the group! Rick is showing us he IS the leader they all need and one anyone would want. He is always weighing every detail and how it may affect any one of his group. I feel either Shane is going to chill the F out or he will be sacrificed come the next half season?! Are they going to stay on Hershel's farm after they broke all of his rules? Will Lori stay pregnant or will she loose the baby? After the killing of Sophia how will any of them react? Will they change? I for one cannot wait for February!! I look forward to your comments and questions so send them in let's "chew the fat!" Have a happy and safe Holliday season my fellow Gore Whores!
