Every year for the last seven years, Halloween has not only brought us candy and joy, but also a new SAW movie. I know this is a tad late since Halloween is now over, but we’re going to take a look back at the Saw movies. This last Halloween, the last of the movie in the series was released. For this horror fan, this last Saw movie did the franchise justice and revealed answers that, for the past seven years fans wondered about. Let’s take a quick look at the SAW franchise.
The first of the saw movies was released in 2004. It was a low budget film, yet believed to possibly be the best SAW of them all. The film was simple and harkened back to the old days of suspense horror films. Yet it also had an element of good gore, to where it was believable and not over the top. As the years of the Saw movies progressed, we saw the story get a bit more confusing. Along the way, the creators kept adding new twists, as well as new alliances to Jigsaw. One of the more standout “games, “ or traps was in SAW 3. The trap involved Amanda, a former addict, having to retrieve a key from a vat of hypodermic needles. I believe that was one of the more clever “games” and really fed a lot of the audience’s fears. SAW 3 was more about keeping Jigsaw alive, however, I think we all knew he wouldn’t survive, and someone would have take over his sinister dynasty.
SAW 5 and 6 were all about uncovering more secrets to Jigsaw’s main plan and also discovering who else is an accomplice. Was Jill, Jigsaw’s widower, a part of the game, or is she just an innocent victim?
In the final SAW film, (SAW 7 3D) there is a familiar face that turns out to be an accomplice to Jigsaw that even the cop never knew about.
SAW 7 does do a fantastic job at answering all those unanswered questions that the past movies had you wondering about. Now the question is “Should you pay 15 bucks to see it?” If you are a big SAW fan is is well worth a watch, if not, wait until it comes out on Netflix or DVD.
